the year in film: 2007

Although most critics are saying that 2007 was a wonderful year for movies, I have to say that it was a pretty depressing one for me, being that I didn't get to watch as many good films (in theaters, at least) as I would have liked. In any case, most of the 2007 movies that I do like were, after all, released much earlier, including what I consider to be the best of these, Philippe Garrel's Regular Lovers, made in 2005, not to mention Charles Burnett's 1977 masterpiece Killer of Sheep.

Also, I haven't written about very many of these films, but I do plan to in the near future. So for now, here's an alphabetical list of the films that kept me from going outside in 2007.

Death Proof (Quentin Tarantino)
The Host (Bong Joon-ho)
I'm Not There (Todd Haynes)
Killer of Sheep (Charles Burnett)
Knocked Up (Judd Apatow)
Offside (Jafar Panahi)
Once (John Carney)
Regular Lovers (Philippe Garrel)
The Wayward Cloud (Tsai Ming-liang)
Zodiac (David Fincher)
